BRIEF

A mixed-use building on one of Seoul's busiest streets — retail at the base, offices in the middle, hotel at the top — had sat neglected and deteriorating in central Myeongdong for years. When the decision was made to renovate, the project began as it typically does: architects and interior designers engaged, plans drawn up. But midway through, the client paused everything. Something was missing. Without a clear sense of what the building stood for — who it was for, what experience it promised, what role it would play — every design decision felt unmoored. Architecture and interiors were being constructed into a brand vacuum. Lippincott was brought in to resolve that before another decision was made. The timing mattered. Myeongdong, once Seoul's most vibrant commercial district, had been all but erased by the pandemic. The renovation wasn't just a building project — it was positioned as a catalyst for the district's revival.

SOLUTION

The work began with a brand platform that could govern every decision that followed. Architecture and interiors already in progress were realigned to it. The client's principle was unambiguous: every choice, down to the placement of a single stone, needed a brand rationale behind it.The building was named TimeWalk — a lifestyle gateway in the heart of Myeongdong, where the accumulated history of the street meets the momentum of what comes next. A place where the city worker moves between work and life, and where the density of urban Seoul opens onto something less expected. From naming, a logo and visual system were developed through to application design. The work extended into brand governance: defining which of the client's assets could carry the TimeWalk brand, and what a prospective tenant needed to offer to belong within it — making TimeWalk-ness precise enough to hold across every surface and every occupant.
